Your advisor will discuss the various burial, entombment and cremation options so that you can make an educated choice. You will also discuss the many special details that are so important. Immediate Need Services
If your family has experienced the loss of a loved one, please accept our sincere condolences and know that we are here to serve you. Woodlawn advisors are available to speak with you at any time. An after-hours emergency number can be obtained by calling our main telephone number, 419-472-2186.
There are several choices to be made in celebrating the life of someone close. The first priority would be choosing the space and what type of service is desired. Our advisors as well as a review of our web site will help you discover which option best suits your needs. Please be assured that we will work with care and compassion in assisting you throughout this process.
There are four primary cemetery issues at the time of immediate need:
- Obtain Burial
- Space Professional Fees for opening and closing the chosen burial space
- Purchase of the burial vault if necessary
- Memorialization by monument or marker
We ask that Burial space, vault and professional fees be paid in full before your cemetery service.
48-hour notice is required for all services at Woodlawn. A notice by 11am Friday is required for Sunday or Monday services. Any services not finalized within the allowable period are subject to a late fee and/or rescheduling of burial services.

While the stately beauty of Woodlawn Cemetery & Arboretum is rooted in history and generations past, today we offer a full range of burial and memorial services to meet the needs of contemporary families.
A full 47 acres of Woodlawn Cemetery remain undeveloped. Burial plots of all sizes are available throughout the site on hillsides, in open areas, forested sections and beside peaceful Woodlawn lakes. Family plots guarantee continuity among gravesites for families who wish to carve out their own special place on the cemetery grounds. Perpetual care is included in the cost of every Woodlawn plot. Some areas of the cemetery are designated for monument-style memorials while others accommodate traditional grave stones and in-ground markers. Mausoleum entombment is also an option, whether in Woodlawn’s lakeside mausoleum or in a privately commissioned mausoleum. We also offer a range of remembrance options to those who choose cremation.
Regardless of the funeral services you select, you can rely on your Woodlawn Family Advisor to walk you through the details of planning a funeral with the utmost care and compassion. Education and planning assistance are part of the impeccable, personalized service we pride ourselves in providing.
In addition, we offer pre-planning services to those who wish to spare their loved ones the burden of making final arrangements for them. Pre-planning allows you to make decisions calmly and carefully well in advance. So you can be sure your wishes are met while relieving stress on your family during a difficult time.
As a private, non-profit association, any profits from products or services provided by Woodlawn are re-invested in the maintenance, restoration and preservation of the cemetery, a National Historic Site.

About Woodlawn Cemetery and Arboretum
With its winding paths, gentle hills, serene lakes and towering trees, historic Woodlawn Cemetery & Arboretum is a perfect place for quiet remembrance and reflection. And for more than 130 years, Toledoans have come here to honor the loved ones who have passed.
Founded in 1876, Woodlawn Cemetery is a classic example of the type of rural cemetery that urban planners began to favor in the mid-1800s. Its original 160 acres were situated well outside the city limits. The beauty of nature and the work of accomplished artists and architects coalesced in its stunning park-like setting.
Over the years, leaders from every facet of Toledo society were laid to rest at Woodlawn. Their families erected elaborate family mausoleums and stunning statuary to commemorate their lives. And the city of Toledo grew up to surround the cemetery grounds—creating an urban gem for generations to enjoy.
In 1998, Woodlawn Cemetery was recognized as a National Historic Site. Today, the cemetery’s board of trustees is dedicated to preserving both the exquisite beauty and historic significance of the site.
