More and more members of our community are choosing cremation as an alternative to traditional casket burial — for reasons that are as varied as the individuals themselves. Some appreciate the simplicity and economy of cremation. Some choose cremation for spiritual or religious reasons. Others are attracted to cremation’s low impact on the environment.
At Woodlawn, we confer the same respect to cremation as we do traditional burial. And we believe that every life should be memorialized in some permanent way, regardless of the process selected to care for bodily remains.
To that end, we offer a range of remembrance options to those who choose cremation.
Remembrance Crypt
Permanent placement of cremated remains in the Remembrance Crypt in our Lakeside Mausoleum
Inter
Inter the cremated remains within the same grave as another loved one on family lots or in the single grave areas. A memorial can be added to the grave space or, in some instances, an inscription can be added to the family monument.
Benches or Boulders
Benches or Boulders provides memorialization and burial. With an array of choices gives families the opportunity to create a uniquely moving symbol of the life you wish to remember.
Columbarium
Conveniently located adjacent to the road in Section 3, this columbarium complements the 150 year old monuments surrounding it. A rare opportunity for above-ground cremation interment in an historic area of the cemetery. Available for at-need and pre-need purchase. Urns and/or urn vaults not required.

Cemetery Lots in Natural Beauty
The natural beauty of Woodlawn's 160 rolling acres is unparalleled in northwest Ohio. Cemetery lots are available throughout the National Historic Site, on hillsides, in open areas or areas thick with majestic, tall trees. Lakeside lots appeal to those who wish to own property near water. Lots are pre-designated as "marker" or "monument" spaces. For future use, 47 acres remain completely undeveloped. Woodlawn offers lots in a variety of sizes, from single to family-size. Groups and organizations may purchase lots in sections as well. The cost of the lot includes the perpetual care of the space.
Anyone who owns property in the cemetery is considered a member of the Historic Woodlawn Cemetery Association. 10% of the purchase price of cemetery property is automatically invested in a Perpetual Care Fund, the proceeds of which are used to mow and trim and generally maintain the property forever. As a private, non-profit association, any profits from products or services provided by Woodlawn are re-invested in the maintenance, restoration and preservation of the cemetery, a National Historic Site.

Woodlawn Cemetery Funeral Pre-need Planning
When a loved one dies, a multitude of important and permanent decisions must be made within a few hours. The statement we hear frequently from survivors is, “I have no idea what they would have wanted or what I can afford.” Important decisions about final funeral arrangements are better made far in advance of need and in an atmosphere of quiet consultation.
Funeral pre-need planning eliminates confusion, uncertainty and unnecessary expense for the person who must make final arrangements. Pre-planning a funeral is a very special gift you can leave to loved ones who want to honor your passing. Pre-need funeral planning is also an opportunity for you to ensure that all of the arrangements will meet your wishes.
When the need arises, a single phone call by your pre-designated person will set the process in motion. Woodlawn Cemetery will make sure that all cemetery arrangements are in accord with your personal preferences.

Funeral pre-planning also provides financial benefit. At Woodlawn Cemetery, we offer pre-need discounts on graves, burial vaults, mausoleum entombment, monuments and markers — up to $500 per family.
Personalized Funeral Service
At Woodlawn Cemetery, you will meet with one of our Family Advisors who will help you in every phase of funeral planning. Your advisor will discuss the various burial, entombment and cremation options so that you can make an educated choice. You will also discuss the many special details that are so important. Family Advisors are available during our normal business hours or by appointment.

Immediate Need Services
If your family has experienced the loss of a loved one, please accept our sincere condolences and know that we are here to serve you. Woodlawn advisors are available to speak with you at any time. An after-hours emergency number can be obtained by calling our main telephone number, 419-472-2186.
There are several choices to be made in celebrating the life of someone close. The first priority would be choosing the space and what type of service is desired. Our advisors as well as a review of our web site will help you discover which option best suits your needs. Please be assured that we will work with care and compassion in assisting you throughout this process.
There are four primary cemetery issues at the time of immediate need:
- Obtain Burial
- Space Professional Fees for opening and closing the chosen burial space
- Purchase of the burial vault if necessary
- Memorialization by monument or marker
We ask that Burial space, vault and professional fees be paid in full before your cemetery service.
48-hour notice is required for all services at Woodlawn. A notice by 11am Friday is required for Sunday or Monday services. Any services not finalized within the allowable period are subject to a late fee and/or rescheduling of burial services.
